Blues and yellows

Filed under: All Pictures — Colin @ 06:34:30 pm

Not a new shot - I've been re-editing some of the early shots from the yellow lines series.

Apologies for the gap in posting and commenting. I'm just beginning to catch up now.

  1. the blue lines of that top line up well with the blue lines upon the steps. In this picture I see the blue lines and white the most powerful, the yellow even seems more worn out than either of them.
Does it fit the double yellow lines project, at first I thought no as this one seems to have other stronger subjects in it, the angles are very different. Maybe this is another direction.

  2. Maybe this is another direction.

Robert - I don't really think like that. I was just out looking for pictures that incorporated the yellow lines. Of course, if it becomes another direction at some point you can claim the prize for spotting it first :-)

  3. I really like the angle at which you presented this. The question: rotated 90 deg or shot that way? My eye moves back and forth between the individual and the triangle, but because of the angle there is a whole other dimension to the shot--a bit of vertigo or something that gives it tension.

  4. Eric - this was shot landscape as presented. I was looking down over the guy sitting on the steps and tilted the camera up to the right to include the yellow lines.

  5. It is more abstract than the other DY pictures. One thing I did not write that I meant to, this works for me and I enjoy looking at it.

  6. It's funny how it gives you the impression that the street is slanting down on the right hand side. I also thought the image was rotated. The boy also seems very close to the road, but he's probably not due to the angle it was taken. Great colours once again.

  8. Hi,
I think this shot was very dynamic with the angle and viewpoint and all. The repeating lines in different colors are really nice. But I also think it is different than the other DY shots you have posted. I haven't counted, but my impression is that there are few shots with humans in them. Also, the other shots are more calm. Well, maybe it can fit in after all depending on the story you want to tell.

hmm, looking again I see the contrast between the very dynamic composition that makes my head spin and the calmness of the situation. That boy sitting quiet on the steps. Interesting.

  9. Kjell - mostly I've been rejecting other shots containing figures, so it isn't that I've been shooting figureless cityscapes, more that I've been editing them out. I suppose if I wanted to theorise about it, I would say that it is because the lines are such static things and that moving figures clash with that idea. Of course, this sitting boy is the exception that fits into my theorising.

Robert - I'm hoping to be able to dedicate a chunk of September to this series. Enough shots to keep me posting through the early winter :-)
