  1. I will use the words Brooks Jensen hates, and say that I like this very much. That is, I like this particular photo quite a lot, but also I like the entire series of DY photos as an emergent whole.

It's very interesting to me to look at the way the series depicts places, and think about how the double yellow line included in each contributes to the sense of place conveyed. Were these places related before the double yellow line was painted? How? And did the addition of the painted lines make them more similar?

It's just fascinating to me that the double yellow line both describes an attribute of the place and at the same time is such a graphical and powerful compositional element.

    More please.

  2. More please

You'll have to wait as there are no more in the bag. I've got plans though...

  3. The confused yellow lines, looks like the person marking this area was not quite sure what to do. This picture seems to me to be well balanced, well composed, nothing noticable to complain about. I guess what I am saying is that I like it as well.
It is harder now (?that I have grown?) to critique individual pictures because I don't want to judge anything without thinking of how it all fits in with the series. That makes the first pictures in any series the hardest to comment on because as a viewer I do not know where the project is going. Darn sofobomo, changed my photography for ever ;o)
Kjell has offered to organise a print exchange and critiquing group but I am starting to feel that every 3 months a series of pictures (project/folio) should be sent around for comment instead.

  4. Nice series, and after looking at my image (above) this looks soooo nice and sharp ;-)
It actually looks very similar to the one posted in June or same area, same buildings, same mountain, same clouds. Was it the same area, I'm just curious now? It's also nice how there's so much colour but it's not overpowering. Pink building, now that's a colour you don't see very often used for a building.

  5. Irena - the last two colour shots were the same day / town as this. The town is Portree on the isle of Skye.

Painting the harbour-front houses in pinks, blues and yellows is something of a tradition in the west highlands and islands of Scotland.

  6. As far as colouring houses is concerned we are a dull bunch in Australia, maybe the bright blue skies is more than enough.

  7. I like the way this moves my eye around the frame. It starts at the car, comes along the lines, `rounds the corner (lingering on the badly drawn arrow for a moment), then down the ramp, out to the boats on the right, then the solitary boat on the left, then out and beyond to the mountains.

I'm guessing those are Sigma colors...DP-1?

  8. Eric,

The series started with DP1 pics, but the recent ones on Skye have all been with the M8 (processed through Raw Developer).
